Underestimating the Feminine
We live in an information age, high tech, very scientific, analytical, and logical. We are forced to back up every idea with research and sources to validate our assumptions and theories. We study, study, and study some more. Bless the people who can go to school for decades or devote their lives in a lab to studying and researching, because if the world depended on me for that, we'd be lost ;- ). We've made amazing discoveries and have thought up and created a lot of cool and life changing stuff. Nonetheless science has also only recently confirmed and "discovered" things in the 20th century that indigenous and 'bush' people have known for centuries. The Dogon people of Mali knew about the existence of the Sirius star system centuries before science and modern day society did.
Before there were fancy microscopes and scientific studies and journals the people of the world learned and observed the universe more intuitively, with observation and closer attention to nature, through feelings, psychically and more right-brained...more feminine.
Even the greatest thinkers of our time, Albert Einstein for example was inspired and shown some of his scientific discoveries through his dreams. But how much do we value and honor information that comes this way. Women or more feminine ways of knowing are highly criticized for our crazy emotions and illogical conclusions. Sometimes we just know things, we feel things, we dream and have visions, and they don't always make sense at the time.
I heard that one of the teachers in the Sandy Hook school shootings dreamed about the school's tragic incident before it occurred. I'm not sure if she tried to warn anyone but who would of really listened? Would the school have closed for a day because of one woman's dream? We marginalize information that can't be backed with facts and certainty. I know for me this has created at times a lack of confidence and trust in the wisdom within me and the seemingly random information that comes to me. I doubt the voice within or the ideas that come to mind yet am constantly shown that I should have just went with it or expressed it to those who needed the message.
We live in a more masculine and patriarchal influenced world and...well how it that going for us? I believe in balance in all things. I believe in the incredible value and healing that feminine aspects and knowledge can bring to our ways of life. I see the value in honoring the aspect of God that is Goddess. The more in tune we are with our feminine side. the more knowledge, wisdom, and understanding we can offer the world.
Pay attention to your feelings...you're not crazy, write down your dreams, honor all the ways you can draw wisdom to your life and others.
“Where there is a woman there is magic. If there is a moon falling from her mouth, she is a woman who knows her magic, who can share or not share her powers. A woman with a moon falling from her mouth, roses between her legs and tiaras of Spanish moss, this woman is a consort of the spirits.” —Ntozake Shange in Sassafrass, Cypress, and Indigo
