Tantra Yoga Shamanism Experience
Those of you who have been following me on Instagram and social media may know that I just spent a month in Ecuador (South America) doing a program on Tantra Yoga Shamanism. I was gifted the opportunity to do a 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training at Durga’s Tiger School.
Before delving into African spirituality the eastern teachings were my foundation. I started with meditation and explored many forms of yoga. I sought out some form of enlightenment that made my purpose clear and allowed me to connect with spirit through that union that the yogic sciences speak of. Every time I sat in meditation or on a mat to move consciously there was always as sense of relief and “ah-moment” that this is what my souls needs. Though I didn’t always remain faithful to my practice, yoga is a part of me, and that became clearer when in the midst of my Sangoma initiation, I channeled an ancient being into my body and did a number of yogic poses from the East and Kemet that I had never even seen before. It’s still fascinating to me that our body is and can be a vehicle to align with spirit, healing, and wisdom.
This program was a perfect blend of everything life, God, the ancestors have been guiding me towards. I got to spend a month living in an ashram of sorts, with over 22 souls who I saw my reflection in, surrounded by a volcano and the powerhouse of the spirits that dwell there. THE FOOD WAS DIVINE. Not only did I get to learn more about yoga, but I got to understand the sexual and spiritual aspects of tantra which I have felt called to for a long time AND work with the indigenous healers of the land through plant medicines and ancestral rituals. I once felt that all of these callings were pulling me in different directions and at times opposing each other, yet now I truly know and see through EXPERIENCE and not just knowledge or information that all is one and extensions of the same primal energies.
We did SO much that I can’t even begin to summarize my experiences here. I will probably be integrating and talking about it for the next decade so don’t worry you’ll get a taste.
Kaula Tantra Yoga Lineage & Style…
At it’s root, Tantra means network and refers to weaving the fabrics of life together. Tantra Yoga asanas are derived from the Vedas, ancient metaphysical knowledge. These movements balance our energy system (prana) and root them in the infinite consciousness to allow the release of deep seated tensions and fears, and shift the identity towards divinity while increasing strength, flexibility, precision, and health. Through tantra we learn to dance between the energetic exchange between Shiva (divine masculine) and Shakti (divine feminine) and integrate kundalini energy into the yoga exploration. This yoga series is practiced in a slow and flowing manner to build patience and awareness. Each asana is held gently for a period of time to allow relaxation into the posture and allows for each student to find their own unique expression. Over time students learn to meditate in the posture to connect with the divine. Tantra is a complete ancient vision of the cosmos. The tantric sciences explore sound, alchemy, astronomy, astrology and divine principles.
I look forward to continue the many, many practices I’ve been blessed to experience in the coming New Year. Wishing you a beautiful end of 2018. Sending you love and strength!
